Origins of GYST

Born from a belief that workplaces should be safer, healthier, and more connected, this is the journey that sparked GYST’s beginnings.
Grounded in Human Impact
 

GYST co-founder, Clive Lloyd, began his career in the field of addictions, working as a psychologist and later as Clinical Director of a major rehabilitation clinic. Supporting bereaved families following the loss of loved ones became a significant focus of his private practice, deepening his understanding of trauma, grief, and recovery.

 

 
 
First Exposure to Safety Culture
 

Clive was soon approached by organisations needing support for employees following workplace injuries and fatalities. This marked his entry into the safety space where he was struck by the reactive, punitive responses often embedded in investigations, rather than approaches that focused on learning or healing.

Applying Psychology to Safety
 

Disturbed by the lack of evidence-based prevention strategies, Clive began researching and developing psychologically grounded methodologies to support safer, more mature workplace cultures. These insights were translated into practical tools and workshops tailored to organisational needs.

 
 
 
Founding GYST
 
In 2011, Clive co-founded GYST to apply psychological science to real-world safety challenges. GYST continues to grow, with a team of psychology trained safety specialists delivering evidence-based programs that strengthen physical, psychosocial, and psychological safety in workplaces across the globe.

The core design element of the GYST brand is the 'Overlapping Circles'. We believe lasting change happens when organisational systems and individuals evolve together. Our overlapping circles design symbolises this philosophy: the larger circle represents the organisation, its culture, leadership, and strategy, while the smaller circle reflects the individuals and teams who bring it to life.
